Life is good! Nick and I are healthy again and thankful to be over our colds!
Lately, my students have been taking me on an emotional roller coaster ride. There are some who need me, there are some who push me away, there are some who have it all and still want more, there are some who have nothing and are content, there are some who have issues, there are some who are really fun to teach, and some who I'd rather let sleep. (Hey that kinda rhymes)
Last week, I helped break up a bad fight at school. This left me feeling jaded and fed up with the students. This week- I had a student ask me to help her apply to college and another student told me she reads her notes to her baby at night to help her review for class.
One minute, I want to tell some of these kids to get out and suspend them up for their behavior, and the next minute, I want to scoop them up and protect them from the harsh world that they live in. I can't even understand some of the struggles they have had to face and yet I ask them to take their mind off their problems and study science?!? For some it is a chore but I hope that for some it is a 5o minute escape. A time where they know that this adult isn't going to turn on them. And a time where they know that they are are respected and cared about.
Okay, I'm getting off my soap box. I guess I'm feeling a little emotional this evening. :)
In other news, I have a college student teacher in my room for two days a week from now until December. I hope that things go well and I can demonstrate some of the teaching skills that work well for me. We have a short fall break next week! I am looking forward to some time off!
Well, I better get to work. Lots of love family and friends!
